Mint Juleps and Embarrassing Moments

Embarrassing moments are normally to be avoided at all costs. Why would you want to risk something like this happening?

The fact is you wouldn’t. Predictions are one way to be embarrassed, and I’m going to try my hand at a prediction right now. The Kentucky Derby is tonight folks (or rather this afternoon).

As you sit around sipping your mint julep in front of your television, watching an age-old event (on a soaking wet track), consider who you think will win, and proclaim it to the world, even if you think it will be embarrassing when you’re wrong.

Pick based on names, pick based on research (I’m sure you’re well-versed in the ever-popular sport of horse racing), but pick based on something.

Horse racing is a sport that brings us back to the golden age of the sportswriter. Hunter Thompson’s legendary piece on the Kentucky Derby barely mentions the horse race at all, instead discussing the good times he had while doing every drug barred in America and being so drunk, he couldn’t even form complete sentences in his article. Thompson didn’t really watch the race, but he did bet on it. And he was not afraid of being embarrassed.

So here is my bold pick for tonight: Ice Box will win.
